Today one of Cape Town’s hottest new spaces gets a new addition called The Yard! The Silo District, which officially opened at the end of September, is already bustling with high-flyers, art hunters, career cats and us, Glou Glouers. Recently, we headed to the Yard, an exciting new hybrid concept store-cum-bistro-bar that is set to become the go-to retail and dining experience. Named for the surrounding dockyards and located within view of the picturesque tugboat moorings and the waters of Cape Town harbour, The Yard is a Dean & DeLuca-esqe inspired space, that aims to be an attraction for visitors anytime of day – morning to night.
If you’re one of the lucky souls working in the district, do your coffee run at the Rosetta Roastery Coffee bar located inside. Lunch? Browse the deli which stocks Fairview Deli Cheese, DV Chocolate, local charcuterie and other yummies. If you’re looking for a gift, there is a carefully curated selection of urban-friendly homeware and accessories. Naturally, our favourite highlight was the restaurant and bar, which is brimming with a selection of wines from Fairview and Spice Route. Something pretty cool and relatively new is also La Capra Wine-on-Tap. It’s the same concept as a beer-on-tap, just wine, available from the bar.
The Yard is the brainchild of a dynamic duo consisting of dynamic retailer and hospitality visionary, Abigail Bisogno, and her business partner, the successful restaurateur, GP Singh. Bisogno explains: “The inspiration for The Yard came from my wine farm background, and my creation of the Spice Route Destination in Paarl, together with my partner’s experience in the food industry over the last 15 years.”
Not only are we excited about the Yard being open, but we’re excited about a place that respects good wine and wants to serve it to their customers. Put this on your wish list for summer 2017!
